This study describe an experiment measuring the moment of inertia of an electric medicare power wheelchairs (EPW) using a torsional pendulum method. Inertia of the wheelchair is an important factor for control, which is a key issue in wheelchair driving. The experimental test platform consisted of a bottom circular wood plate, an upper metal plate, and four ropes. Materials with known moments of inertia such as the metal disk and cylinder were used to test the accuracy of the system. The EPW used in the experiment was Invacare G3 Torque SP Storm Series. The measured result of the moment inertia of the wheelchair was 5.2280 kg.m(2) and handicap scooters the errors of the system are less than 10% even when the object is only 25lbs. Effect of wheelchair stroke pattern on mechanical efficiency

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of different medicare power wheelchairs and medical scooters stroke patterns on efficiency and propulsion technique (force application and timing). DESIGN: Inexperienced, able-bodied subjects were randomly divided into two velocity groups (1.11 m/sec n = 13 and 1.39 m/sec n = 11). An external (medium) load was set at 0.23 N/kg. Subjects performed four 4-min exercise blocks on a wheelchair ergometer. The first block was performed with a freely chosen movement pattern of the hand. Thereafter, the pumping, semicircular, or single-looping over propulsion pattern were performed in a counterbalanced order. Gross mechanical efficiency and propulsion technique variables were measured with Oxycon Alpha and an instrumented wheelchair ergometer. RESULTS: A significant difference was found for mechanical efficiency, with pumping showing the highest efficiency and semicircular the lowest efficiency, regardless of velocity. Timing variables and negative power deflections before and after the push phase showed significant differences between the stroke patterns. CONCLUSIONS: Pumping is the energetically most efficient stroke pattern in contrast to the semicircular pattern in this subject group. Propulsion technique could not explain the difference in efficiency.

The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent visual perception, visual function, cognition, and personality traits affect medicare power wheelchairs use in adults. No significant correlations were found between personality traits and power wheelchair driving performance. These results indicate that good visual perceptual skills, visual function, and various aspects of cognition are necessary for proficient power wheelchair use. These data will assist clinicians in identifying significant factors to consider when evaluating and training clients for power wheelchair use.

squillions in cash before you can blink, take another look. Look outside the box. If it belongs

Look for duplication. You will need to involve other people. Is this something that you can see

other people getting value out of? Because that’s what it boils down to. Operate your own best

METHODS: Measurements were obtained from instrumented wheelchair rims during steady-state propulsion as subjects traversed outdoor concrete sidewalk terrain that included smooth level, aggregate level, and a ramp with a smooth surface. Propulsion effort was assessed using the average propulsion moment, average instantaneous power, and work for both upper extremities. RESULTS: Propulsion effort, captured by the propulsion moment, work and power, varied across ground conditions (p<0.001). Propulsion effort was greater as the rolling resistance increased (i.e., smooth versus aggregate surfaces) and as the inclination angle progressed from level to inclined surfaces.
